Calmbirth® classes

My husband and I found Gwen’s calm birth weekend course absolutely invaluable in our journey towards the birth of our son. Not only has it given us a range of breathing and relaxation techniques and practices to work on over the coming weeks in preparation for child birth, but it also included detailed discussions on the changing anatomy of the female body during child birth, what to expect prior to, during and after labour and child birth, and positive ways to approach any unexpected complications which may arise throughout the process. By the end of the weekend we were both feeling really excited about what lay ahead over the coming weeks and couldn’t wait to put all of our new learning into practice!

Calmbirth® classes

Calmbirth® classes

Calmbirth® is a pre-natal education program for pregnant couples. It has become one of the most well recognised programs in Australia and overseas and is now being taught in several hospitals in Sydney including Royal Hospital for Women, Randwick and Sydney Adventist Hospital.

During a two-day calmbirth® workshop couples will learn:

  • to access their natural inner resources to alleviate the fear, anxiety and tension experienced during pregnancy, labour and childbirth

  • the practical skills of relaxation, breathing and visualisation which are used during pregnancy, labour, childbirth and beyond

  • how the mother's body is beautifully designed to birth her baby naturally and calmly and how the right preparation can help you work with the process rather than resist it

  • the importance of a mother's beliefs and attitudes about birth and how these can be one of the major differences between a positive or negative birth experience

  • the importance of bonding with their baby and how this effects their baby’s future life

  • to be empowered to take control of their own birthing experience.

The knowledge and skills the programme teaches prepares the mother to remain relaxed and focused during her labour, to make informed choices if and when necessary, and to be in tune with the natural energy and rhythm of her baby’s birth.

Calmbirth® recognises the role of the father/partner or birth support person as being vitally important to the woman's birth experience and supports them to develop skills, understanding and confidence to play this important role.

The calmbirth® programme was developed by Peter Jackson, who as a midwife working in country hospitals for over 20 years, witnessed many mothers whose experience of childbirth was one of fear, anxiety and trauma. The calmbirth® program is the result of Peter’s experience and search for a way to help mothers rediscover their birth power and joy.

The calmbirth weekend and the way you delivered the material opened my mind to the possibility that my body was more capable of this journey than I thought and that maybe I didn’t need to fear everything as much.
